Girl follows GPS and drives car into water

In The Office Season 4 episode Dunder Mifflin Infinity, Michael drives his car into a lake while blindly following GPS directions.

Sound unrealistic? Read on:

Three young women escaped a sinking SUV after a direction from a rental car GPS unit sent them down a boat launch and into the Mercer Slough early Wednesday.

The driver apparently thought she was on a road while following her GPS unit just after midnight, but she was actually heading down the Sweyolocken boat launch.

  1. I just saw this on the news in Seattle last night and my very first thought was, “I’ve got to send this story to Office Tally!” Thanks for finding it and posting it, I didn’t have a chance to send the link this morning! This is the very same scenario that Michael and Dwight got into – but exactly!! Not unrealistic!

  2. Wow. One of the most hated moments in the show due to the ridiculousness is now plausible. I have a new respect for DMI.

  3. I grew up in Scranton, and I now live in Seattle. So I didn’t like “Dunder-Mifflin Infinity” for TWO reasons: “Lake Scranton” didn’t look anything like the real thing, and being guided into the lake by GPS seemed TOO outrageously stupid. And now THIS happens in the Seattle area! I am mildly stupefied by this turn of events.

“Lake Scranton” STILL doesn’t resemble the real lake, however. Oh well…

  4. I think this girl’s story is slightly more plausible than Michael’s for two reasons:
    1. It was midnight and I’m guessing there was no lighting along the boat ramp.
    2. She probably didn’t have a Dwight-like passenger screaming at her: “It can’t mean that, this is a lake!”
    Still pretty funny though!

  5. This just goes to show us that Michael was right. Computers are about trying to murder you in a lake.
