And the winner is …

Ladies and gentlemen, the moment you’ve all been waiting for is finally here. Well, maybe not the moment — that doesn’t come until September 21 — but a moment nonetheless. James and I are proud to present the winners of The iPod Giveaway:

Grand Prize iPod Winner:

  • Joseph (coupjoe)

Runners-up:

  • garbagethrower
  • Joseph (jj_mcdonough)
  • Kristen
  • lindsay, and
  • smart little cookie

Congratulations! You all prevailed over some very stiff competition. Each of you will be receiving an e-mail from us shortly with instructions on how to proceed. Please let one of us know if you don’t receive anything by the end of Wednesday, September 6.

An extra note to the five runners-up: you all may recall us promising an Office episode from the iTunes Music Store to each of you. We’re afraid that we won’t be able to deliver on that promise; instead, we’ll be awarding each of you a copy of The Office Season Two on DVD. That’s right, come September 12 (or September 13 depending on how shipping works out), the five of you will be receiving a copy of the boxed set delivered directly to your doorstep. We were so impressed with your work that we couldn’t let you all off with a just a single episode; you guys are getting all 22 plus more supplemental features than you can shake a stick at. Course, you’ll want to cancel your existing pre-order if you already have one.

On a final note, we’d like to thank Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey, David Denman, Brian Baumgartner and Kathie from Give Me My Remote for providing us with five brilliant questions. Thanks to you all, we only had to worry about coming up with three clever questions rather than eight.

And that, folks, concludes The First Annual OfficeTally/Northern Attack Summer Giveaway. We don’t know if there will be a Second Annual Giveaway, but given how much we enjoyed running this one, we’d sure like for there to be a follow-up next year. Plus, so many of you deserved recognition for your entries this time around that we’d like for everyone to have a second shot at winning next summer. No guarantees that we’ll be able to secure another iPod, but we’ll see what we can come up with.

Again, congratulations to the winners, and thank you, all of you, for participating.

  1. Wow! Thanks so much, tanster & James. Very cool to be first runner-up! Oh..they’re alphabetical… Seriously; a heartfelt thank you for the contest, all the time spent judging and for—wow—upping the prizes to S2 DVDs! Awesome!

The entries from so many fellow Office fans were so good…I am very grateful to be selected from such a creative and funny group. Congratulations to Joseph (I had wondered why he kept answering each question twice)—great work, both of you!

  2. I’m so jealous of all the winners–congratulations! I’ll have to go back and read your entries now.

  3. Congratulations to the winners!

Would it be possible to get links to the entries of each of the winners, or at least links to the entries of the iPod winner (since there were two Joseph’s that won, so that we know which is which)?

Also, now that the contest is over would it be possible to get a little more insight into what you two looked for when judging the entries and deciding the winners? Besides the rules (about length, grammar, prize eligibility, etc.), the original explanation was kind of vague “(We’re not exactly sure what this means yet, but it will involve reading all entries, culling our own favorites, and ending quite possibly in a 3-point karate match. Readability will factor significantly into our decision, so please be articulate in formulating your responses (i.e. we like stuff that’s well-written).” I think that would be very helpful to us all if there are future contests (which would be awesome!).

  4. Congrats to the winners.

I can’t believe how into this contest I got. And while I’m disappointed not to have won, I know the competition was fierce. There’s some really funny people around here. This contest really carried me through the summer waiting for S3.

I make a motion for more contests, even if the only prize is the admiration of your Office peers.

I’d just like to know, now that it’s over, where’d the iPod come from?

  5. Congrats Joseph! Well done! I can’t wait to go back and read all the winning entries.

And thanks for the runner-up prize upgrade! Sweet! I will go cancel my pre-order right now. Thanks again so much for putting on this contest, Jennie and James. It was really fun.

  6. tanster, though i know you guys have probably sworn off reading for a couple months, i’ll say great job. on the selections, on the prizes, on the new and improved prizes, on the topics, and on putting together a fun contest that held alot of people’s interest through the long summer.

    congratulations to all the winners.

i agree with jason, though, it would be nice to know which joseph entries won.

  7. From the (CoupJoe) Joseph

I just want to say congratulations to everyone that won and also everyone that posted and kept us all on our toes. I would read some weeks and think I can’t top that one, or that one, or this one…human fart torch? I don’t stand a chance!

Thank you so much, Jennie and James, I honestly feel privileged to have been part of such a great contest about one of the best shows ever (2nd only to Coupling. British version only. But closing in on being #1. In my book at least. I digress…) Thank you not only for the Ipod, but for 8 great weeks. I thought the show was addictive, this contest was even more so at times.

Question: “Which Joseph entries are which?”
    My entries were:

Week 1: Russell Winters the motivational speaker

Week 2: Stanley – wandering jobs and winning 1st Dundee ever for “Superb work”

Week 3: Weekend with Michael – written by M.G. Scott

Week 4: List of pranks – mine started with the Darth Vader voice changer.

Week 5: IBS Profile for Kevin Malone

Week 6: Page 4 of 19 from the Lackawanna sheriff’s office listing the items found in Creed’s desk starting with the petrified wood.

Week 7: Roy’s Response – written in all talking heads as the Season 3 opening

Week 8: Scrantonicity plays remade covers and the hit Rockwell single “Somebody’s Watching Me”

Once again great job to everyone! That includes you Jennie, James, GMMR and the cast members – Jenna, Angela, David and Brian – keep up the “Superb Work!”.
We definitely need to do it again next year to pass the summer reruns by faster and awaiting the season 3 DVD and the new Season 4 premier.

    Thank you all again,

    Joseph (CoupJoe)

  8. Joseph: Thanks for posting the list. I went through & read all your entries and I must agree with the judges…you are indeed iPod-worthy. Congrats again!

  9. From Joseph (jj)

Man, I almost crapped my pants when I saw ‘Joseph’ under the winner… then I realized it was a different name. After like a millisecond of disappointment I saw my name under the runners up and was delighted. Then I read we weren’t getting an Ipod episode. Anger again. Then I read on and saw you were giving the runners up a Season 2 DVD and all was right in the world.

This was a great contest and I hope to take part in many more like it. It sure gives me something to do at my office.

Thanks tanster and James, and congrats to the other Joseph, your entries were great. I loved the new pranks Jim plays on Dwight.

  10. Haha. I just went to read some of the winners’ entries and all of them are hilarious! Great job!

  11. Wow!! Thanks so much! I am sooo thrilled to be counted among the runners-up and very excited to receive the season 2 DVD set. What a GREAT surprise!

This was a very entertaining contest and I absolutely loved reading ALL of the entries each week. Wow, just wow. Thanks to Jennie and James for two fantastic websites that keep us informed, entertained, and distracted enough to keep us from going crazy until the new season starts! Way to go, Team!

  12. Congrats to the winner and runners-up! You guys are so talented and definitely deserved to win!

Oh, and i had so much fun participating in this competition! Can’t wait to do this again ^_^

  13. I’ve been laid low with a cold for the past few days (fortunately, with no visits from Dwight to check on me), and the doctor couldn’t have prescribed better medicine!

Thanks, James and Jennie! I’m surprised and honored! It was SO much fun to participate. As Katy might cheer, A-W-E [clap, clap] S-O-M-E!

Congrats to everyone who participated–who knew geeking out could be so much fun?

  14. Congrats, Joseph.
Nice job James and tanster…definitely a highlight of my summer (though it would have been nicer to win something; there’s always next summer…right?).

It was great fun being part of the contest.
