Prism DuroSport, anybody?

Maybe this is old news to all of you, but this was the first time I had heard about it …

Remember in the episode The Injury, when Dwight sees Pam playing with her new MP3 player, the Prism DuroSport? He remarks, ” … they’re like an iPod, only they’re better. ‘Cause they’re chunkier and more solid.”

Well, now you can order your very own!

Er … just ignore the scathing review from Medialoper (no longer available), the potential bleeding from the nose and eyes, and the fact it doesn’t actually play music in MP3 format. (Because “nothing kills an artist’s career faster than large amounts of people having access to their music.”)

And yeah, don’t be alarmed that it has its own hate site, www.prismdurosportsucks.com (no longer available).

Thanks to flotsette for the tip!

(And flotsette says, “Apparently it was done by the show writers. Be sure to click ALL the links, it goes on forever, and it is HILARIOUS.”)

  1. That is funny. I like that it has longer battery life (on the first charge). And it’s great that the very first FAQ is if it’s radioactive! The FAQ’s are probably the best part.

  2. Holy crap. It took me a while to figure out it was a joke. (It’s early.) I thought it was some weird, European outfit. Then I’m like, why are they advertising for a new CFO?

  3. Haha, I love the hate site. I like how the only category of posts is “Complaints”.

  4. the support schedule is amazing….i want to work for that company, they are off almost half the year.

  5. I think my favorite part is the “Patented Super High-Intensity Toggle” with 72 positions! They have a pdf file of a “toggle template” that just shows 72 tickmarks — without indicating what they do… and it says to refer to the website for their function! And where you click to allow the song to play is one position away from where you click to delete the song and report yourself to the RIAA! ROTFL

  6. flotsette, that is so funny — the toggle template was my favorite part! :)

  7. The review was done as an April Fool’s joke by a fan, but I can’t figure out if the Durosport website itself was created by Office fans or by the writers. Either way, it is very funny.

The best post has to be on the one titled “Cassette Player Died” on the PrismDuroSportSucks blog. The poster explains his/her 18,000 mp3 collection was inadvertantly all converted into dt6 format, and now must be converted into cassette tape to be played. And the cassette player on their Prism DuroSport 1 just died. I’m still giggling about it.

  8. Oh, I should have added that whoever the owners of the websites are (all registered through GoDaddy.com) use a service that hides their identity.

  9. Hi you guys. Over at theofficeforum.net we were trying to figure out who might be the source of these sites. I wrote to B.J. (at myspace) and asked him if the writers had done it and he actually wrote back to me! Here’s what he said:

“It isn’t us!! We were delighted and bewildered to find it.

    B.J.”

This was confirmed too by dunderball who did some digging and found that the sites are not owned by NBC. So the mystery continues . . . .

  10. NSpector, nice investigative work, thanks for the update!

Hope you can solve the mystery … :)

  11. Hm, nice sleuthing. Sorry to misinform – I just took someone’s word for it that the writers did it. I notice the day this entry was posted, they did an update for the first time since April. Nice!

  12. Well the Prism DuroSport is actually a Creative Zen Microphoto, which by the way is better than an iPod. I have one and it is asesome. It surprises me that Creative didn’t want to advertise, especially with a show as immensly popular. But I have to give props to the writers. Good work.

  13. so i just called the “emergency support number” and got an answering machine saying “stevens’ residence”.

    weird.
