Rainn’s visit to Scranton

Here are a few stories on Rainn Wilson’s visit to Scranton’s The Mall at Steamtown today:

An excerpt from the article:

Instead of a key to the city, which Mr. Wilson jokingly requested, Mr. Doherty offered his office key as a concession. Mr. Wilson happily took it, then replied, “I’ll need your pin, the password for your computer and your social security number.”

Scranton resident Brian Martin nearly stole Mr. Wilson’s thunder when he proposed to his girlfriend and fellow “Office” fanatic, Jodi Kahanowitz. When Ms. Kahanowitz accepted, Mr. Wilson grabbed her and pretended to make out with her. Then, for full comic effect, he did the same to Mr. Martin.

  1. Yeah, I got there at 12:30. It was supposed to start at 1, but Rainn finished his talk by the time I got there. After waiting until about 1:45, I realized there was no hope of meeting Rainn. I took a couple of pictures of him after leaving the line. I was pretty disappointed because I drove 2 and a half hours to see him, but there was nothing I could really do.

I was little pissed, because I spoke to one of the mall officials. They told me that the reason he was only on from 1-3pm was because it’s the holiday season and Santa needed to come back on. That kinda pissed me off, because people travelled greater distances than me and didn’t get to meet him because of the time constraint.

The next time an Office cast member comes to Scranton, they need to book a bigger venue and for a longer period of time. It was pretty much chaos.

  2. And just a side note, from what I saw, Rainn was a total gentleman. He tried to accomodate as many people as possible. A real class act.

  3. wow.. call me an idiot.. but i had no idea that angela was married to paul lieberstein’s brother!

  4. I wish I went, but from MA. that’d be kinda hard, lol, but it would have been an amazing birthday present, to see Dwight K. Schrute in person.

  5. I had so much fun in scranton. My friends and I stayed over saturday night from Philly (ain’t no party like a scranton party), and after a night in a hilton, and god knows how much money spent at the bar, we were a little hungover to get in line any earlier than 11. Unfortunately we were about 5 ft from the cutoff point in the line. Everything was handled fine I thought. The line was controlled, it was just massive due to Rainn being so awesome.

and by the way…nothing but ‘dwights’ out at the bar, and we literally stood in back of the most annoying woman in the world for 4+ hours, but we STILL had a great weekend even without meeting him.

  6. oops I forgot to add that Rainn was really great to everyone that turned out to see him. He showed up early, and stayed a lot later than scheduled and still couldn’t see everyone.

I did enjoy all the families with their dressed up children looking extremely frustrated when they realized santa was replaced all day by a man wearing a plaid shirt and chunky glasses.

  7. A friend and I also drove 2 hours only to find a ridiculous line that we didn’t even bother to stand in. My favorite part was when I overheard someone say “I don’t understand what this line is about…ain’t like it’s Ben Affleck or something”.
