Here’s how I see it, because I’m not surprised Jan went with him.

What do we know about Jan? She’s trying to be a professional woman, but broke up with her husband because he didn’t want kids. She wants to be able to embrace her masculine side as well as her feminine side.

Her husband was insensitive, and Michael was sweet to her. Michael is genuinely interested in what she wants. He definitely cares more about her than she does about him, which is a change for her. So, Jan’s torn between Michael’s sensitivity and her disgust at how unprofessional and inappropriate he is.

This gives us a little insight as to why Michael’s branch was downsized instead of the idiot guy from the other branch in the Valentine’s Day episode. Jan got burned bad by Michael and Carol!

A Jan Levinson divided against itself cannot stand!
