I think it’s obvious that the scranton strangler is Gabe. He wasn’t signed on this season but sources say it’s not the ‘last’ we see of him… Makes sense to me.

Or perhaps the real one got away with it. On one hand, the suspected Strangler instigated a car chase with the police, and, well, innocent people don’t run. On the other hand, Toby thought that the person convicted wasn’t the real Strangler. We don’t know what happened in between the car chase and the trial with regards to the Strangler.

Gabe has done some creepy things that would hint at him being the guy. ( i.e. the video in last season’s halloween episode)
I find the idea that any of the characters on the show is the strangler to be ridiculous. I was hoping we would get away from the wacky S6-8 hijinks and having Gabe be the strangler would fall right in that category. This is supposed to be a documentary about a paper company, not CSI.

My problem with that is even if it’s supposed to be a documentary, it’s still a comedy t.v. show. Gabe being the scranton strangler makes sense because he’s a weird…weird…disturbing guy. It would also be a hilarious outcome. Who cares…if it’s jokey. In season 3 dwight actually thought Jim became a vampire by a bat bite…….._ did anyone care?
I think Roy’s secret was that he cheated on Pam while they were dating with whoever he’s marrying now. This causes a mini-arc in which both Pam and Jim feel a little shaky and, in the third episode, where Nellie tries to convince Pam that Jim is in fact cheating on her. (We know, however, this isn’t the case: Jim’s ‘secret’ is his Philly job.)

@Daniel G So you would find it funny if one of the characters was a strangler? That’s not my idea of hilarious. And the comparison of Jim fooling Dwight into thinking he’s a vampire and Gabe strangling people isn’t really very apt.
My guess: Roy marries “The Hot Girl” that Jim dated. Remember on the booze cruise…how much Roy and, jeez I can’t remember her name for the life of me right now!, the hot girl got along? They were openly flirting with one another and Roy seemed VERY taken with her…and they seemed like a perfect fit. Ex football player and ex cheerleader. It wouldn’t surprise me if the thing Roy spills is that while on the booze cruise, drunk, and after setting a wedding date, yet again, with Pam, he and the hot girl made out or something.
At the beginning of the promo, is it just me, or is Kevin sitting in the manager’s office with a desk name plate saying, “Kevin Malone”?
@ volleyball camp every summah (#18), i REALLY doubt that he married katy. with as big a star as amy adams is now, it would have been announced that she was guest-starring this season.
Maybe they didn’t want to reveal that before the show happened.
Greg Daniels said he wanted to be more secretive about the show this last season so there would be surprises. Revealing Amy Adams would ruin the shock value.

You have a point about Greg Daniels’ hopes for surprises this season. A good analogy is Game of Thrones’ S2 finale: a very missed character returned in a hallucination sequence, and no one even caught a whiff of it beforehand. (That’s a fandom where people go stalking around for details four months in advance, too, so it was HUGE.)
I have to say that it’s also one gigantic point in favor for a MScott cameo. Yeah, I know Carell wanted to leave it where it was, but I also didn’t think he imagined the show would end so fast after he left. Me, I thought we’d get 4 – 5 more seasons, slowly decreasing in quality as the original characters all left. Did not even see it coming that 9 would be the end. So, I still say maybe, and maybe on Amy Adams, too.

The “Gabe is the Strangler” idea makes perfect sense to me. The first reference to the Strangler is Andy’s newspaper for CiCi’s birth. The murders line up perfectly with the Sabre takeover/Gabe moving to Scranton. And Gabe, owner of over 200 horror films and 5 time a yearly visitor to Amsterdam (home of hash and hooker killing, I always say) is now back in Fl. and there have been no more killings in Scranton even though Toby feels they convicted the wrong guy. If it’s a (semi)regular from the show – Gabe is the only person who makes any sense.

Highly doubt it’s Amy Adams, don’t think she would have had any time to even film. Over the summer she filmed Man of Steel, Trouble With the Curve, and did Shakespeare in the Park from July to August. So I doubt Roy married her. That would be cool though!
It seems to me like some people just REFUSE to believe the Scranton Strangler (which most people see as a “classic” recurring element of the show) didn’t debut during the show’s classic years (S5 or earlier). The Strangler was first mentioned as a throwaway joke in S6’s “The Delivery” (about a month after Gabe first appeared) in the newspaper headline “Scranton strangler strikes again” (note the lack of capitalization in “strangler”, indicating that the Strangler attacks had recently begun).

Honestly, i see the strangler being Deven the guy that Michael fired in the Season 2 episode “Halloween”
I don’t neccessarily like the idea of a regular or semi regular being the strangler, but if it were the case, then it would HAVE to be either Devon, Gabe, or Mose. Devon could have went on a killing spree after being fired unceremoniously by Michael. I don’t know if the dates line up, though. Gabe, for obvious reasons, could definitely be the strangler. He has an affinity to horror and just has that serial killer look about him. Ask yourselves: If someone told you Gabe was a murderer, would you believe them? As for Mose, wasn’t it speculated that he wouldn’t be on the Schrute Farms spinoff? If so, the perfect cop out would be him doing a bid in prison. Makes sense, right?
Has anyone considered that the Scranton Strangler could be Creed? Remember in the murder mystery episode that when Michael tells him there has been a murder he leaves the office. Thoughts?
How on earth does Gabe as the Scranton Strangler make any sense? Toby was on the jury that convicted him – so not only does it mean that Toby knows what the strangler looks like, but the strangler be held in custody during the trial. If somehow the strangler was able to escape custody and continue working at his 9-5 job during the trial, wouldn’t the one person in the office who knows his identity report him? And after the strangler is convicted of murder and put on death row, somehow he’s able to escape and continue his job like nothing happened?
I’m with the majority who seem to feel that The Strangler shouldn’t be any Office regular. But Greg Daniels says we’ll find out who it is this season and IF it is a regular no one makes as much sense as Gabe. If there had been any mention of DeAngelo being in Scranton prior to his brief stint then maybe, but there wasn’t. Others, like Devon might make some sense, but not based on the timeline. So really who else could it be that fits the timeline of the murders, start to finish? Jo Bennett? David Wallace, driving from NY to Scranton to strangle people because he was angry after being laid off and between R&D sessions for SuckIt? I’m open to anything that makes more sense, but can’t see anyone making more sense than Gabe.
