The Office Season 5 spoilers and news

Jenna Fischer says expect utter lunacy on the Office episode airing Sunday immediately after the big game this Sunday. “Pam gets some family news that she and Jim have to deal with,” Fischer told me yesterday on the SAG Awards red carpet …
“The entire office goes berserk and there’s complete mayhem,” she said. “I can say that Jim and Andy do something insane with a copy machine, and Angela does something crazy with a cat.”
Jan. 25: New York Times
“The Office” remains so much the signature series for NBC that the network has ordered more episodes this season — to total 29, according to Paul Lieberstein, one of the show’s new supervising producers (who also plays the office human resources representative, Toby Flenderson). Most shows produce 22 episodes a season, with the maximum usually 24.

“[Jim and Pam are] going to start planning their wedding, I can say that,” [Jennifer] Celotta tells me of über-Office coupling Pam and Jim. Coexecutive producer (Toby!) Paul Lieberstein adds, “We are following Pam and Jim outside [of the office]. I don’t think we’ll be back in the house, but we will be following them outside.”
So will they say “I do” before the current season ends? “We’re not sure,” says Celotta. “They’re definitely headed toward a wedding, that’s what we have in our minds, but we don’t know exactly when.”
And it won’t be all smooth sailing for PB&J. According to Lieberstein, Jim’s ex Karen, Rashida Jones, returns for the first half of a two-part episode in March for an episode called “Lecture Circuit” written by Mindy Kaling (Kelly), and it will reunite Karen and Jim’s bride to be.
“Michael has been doing well at the office,” Paul explains. “And Wallace asks him to go around and talk to some other branches, and one stop is Utica. He has Pam with him as his assistant.” Will Karen confront the boyfriend-stealing, now-engaged Pam? “Pam is very nervous and anxious to see Karen, and the storyline deals with that,” Lieberstein says.
Meanwhile, it seems like Dwight Schrute is not handling the loss of Angela too well. For The Office’s big Super Bowl episode, Dunder Mifflin is in need of a good old-fashioned fire drill, and per usual, Dwight Schrute will take things a smidgen too far. “In an effort to do extreme disaster training, because [Dwight's] frustrated with the way people are responding to him, he sets fire to the office,” Lieberstein reveals. “He locks everyone in the office and sets fire to it, and then Michael has to come and cool him down afterward.”
So what about the fans’ hope that Holly (Amy Ryan) will be back? “There’s a strong story for Michael coming up,” Celotta teases, revealing that the producers are pursuing Ryan to see if she might return before the season ends.
Jan. 22: My inside source
When I asked my inside source for more information about tonight’s episode (‘Prince Family Paper’), they said:
It is a very Michael-heavy episode which we haven’t seen in awhile. And Michael faces a heartbreaking ethical dilemma. I was actually surprised at the outcome!

Jan. 20: Ausiello Files
Question: I am absolutely in love with the Jim/Pam relationship on The Office! My body is just itching to see their wedding. Will it be this season, or are the writers going to make us wait? — Kyle
Ausiello: I assumed it would take place this season … until, that is, I spoke to exec producer Greg Daniels. “If people assume it’ll happen this season, then I don’t want to do it,” he countered with a laugh. “There are so many stories about a couple getting married that I want to explore.” The post-Super Bowl episode on Feb. 1 will introduce one such story when Pam learns that her parents are having marital problems, causing her to wonder, “If they can’t make it work, what chance do Jim and I have?”Question: The Office? Pretty please. — Katie
Ausiello: BJ Novak confirms to me that Ryan will make a “dramatic” return later this season as part of a top-secret storyline.

Jan. 17: San Francisco Eureka Theatre

Tonight during SF SketchFest, this man was introduced to the audience as “the man who will play Pam’s dad on the Super Bowl episode of The Office”!
I got to talk to him briefly after his performance, and he couldn’t have been nicer. He said The Office producers approached him about the role, and there was no way he was going to turn it down!
Even though he’s on only briefly, it’s a “good moment” and sets up possibilities for future appearances.

Re: ‘Stress Relief’:
“Dwight, in an effort to do extreme disaster training because he’s frustrated with the way people have responded to it in the past, locks everyone in the office and sets fire to it,” he said. “And then Michael has to help everyone.”
Re: Idris Elba:
He’ll be playing a character who gets promoted to Jan’s old job over Michael (who naturally thinks he’s a lock for the position). “Michael doesn’t handle it well,” Lieberstein said. “There’s quite a lot of tension with a presence that imposing and a guy like Michael Scott who just can’t get it together.”

Jan. 16: IGN
I spoke to Rashida Jones, who told me she had already filmed an upcoming episode of The Office, in which her character Karen returns. Jones was wary of giving any info, joking, “I’ve been well trained.” The writers did give some information however, with Lieberstein explaining, “Michael’s been doing well at the office, and Wallace asks him to go around and talk to some other branches. And one stop is Utica … And he has Pam with him as his assistant. So it’s a chance to see that.” Added Celotta, “Pam is very nervous and anxious to see Karen, and that storyline does get dealt with. It’s a really cool story. It’s fun.”
As for Ryan, while B.J. Novak had to take some time off to film Inglourious Basterds, Celotta said, “He is coming back and he’s coming back in a very interesting way. That’s all I can say. He’s part of an arc that’s gonna happen at the beginning of March. He’s very involved in that.”

Synopsis for Stress Relief (Feb. 1):
STRESSED OUT IN THE OFFICE–SPECIAL ONE HOUR POST SUPERBOWL EPISODE FEATURING GUEST STARS JACK BLACK (“SCHOOL OF ROCK”), JESSICA ALBA (“FANTASTIC FOUR”) AND CLORIS LEACHMAN (“MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE”)–After Dwight’s (Rainn Wilson) fire safety seminar goes awry, he must make amends to the stressed-out office. Michael (Golden Globe winner Steve Carell) tries a number of ways to get his employees to relax before discovering that he is the number one stressor at work. So that people won’t feel afraid of him, he insists on a no-holds-barred roast of himself. Also, while watching a pirated movie, Andy (Ed Helms) is convinced that Jim (John Krasinski) and Pam (Jenna Fischer) are film gurus. Leslie David Baker, Brian Baumgartner, Kate Flannery, Mindy Kaling, Angela Kinsey, Phyllis Smith, Oscar Nunez, Creed Bratton, Craig Robinson, Paul Lieberstein and Melora Hardin also star.

[Ryan] hasn’t been on the show lately because B.J. Novak is filming a movie with Brad Pitt and Quentin Tarantino, but [Paul] Lieberstein said he’d be back later this season, probably in late March or early April, depending on how the episodes are scheduled.

The Office Hits the Road
Michael, Pam Go TrippingWhat a long strange trip it’s going to be! In the special two-part Feb. 5 episode of The Office, Michael (Steve Carell) and Pam (Jenna Fischer) hit the road together and end up crossing paths with at least one, and possibly two, people from their past.
“Michael’s been enlisted by the corporate office to go around to the various branches and give lectures on salesmanship and he enlists Pam to be his chauffeur,” the episode’s director, Ken Kwapis, tells TV Guide Magazine.
The journey ends up being humorous, but also heartbreaking, for both of the characters. Pam is in for a tough time going to the branch where Karen (Rashida Jones). her former rival for Jim’s (Krasinksi) affections now works. Kwapis promises that “there is a surprise in store for Pam when she and Karen see each other for the first time.”
Michael is also apparently in for a shock of his own when the Dunder Mifflin duo get to the Nashua, N.H. branch where his former flame, Holly (Amy Ryan), is now working. Kwapis won’t confirm that Ryan will make another appearance on the show but does add, cryptically, “The lecture that Steve gives at Holly’s branch is one of those utterly cringe-worthy moments for which The Office is famous and it breaks your heart.”

Jan. 15: EW’s Michael Ausiello
Greg Daniels, the big boss behind The Office, just confirmed for me exclusively the best news ever: Amy Ryan will be reprising her spectacularly popular role as Holly Flax, soul mate to Steve Carell’s Michael.
“She will come back,” says Daniels. “We haven’t written it yet, but we’re discussing her coming back for the season finale. We’re hoping she’ll be available.”

Jan. 14: Variety
Thesp Idris Elba has been cast on “The Office” as a new rival to Dunder Mifflin regional manager Michael Scott (Steve Carell).
Elba, most recently seen in Guy Ritchie’s “Rocknrolla,” will appear in six episodes later this season. Details are slim on his plot line, other than he’ll play a no-nonsense hire at Dunder Mifflin’s corporate office who will throw Michael Scott into turmoil.

Something new re: “The Duel”:

My source says this about tomorrow’s episode “The Duel”:
Scranton is the top performing branch and David Wallace is stunned …?
Hee hee.
Jan. 14: Ask Ausiello
Question: I’m looking for a juicy Jim/Pam Office spoiler. Can you help me please? — Kayla
Ausiello: I can indeed. A radiant Jenna Fischer told me at Sunday’s Golden Globes that there are “some big Jim and Pam moments” in the post-Super Bowl episode on Feb. 1. “Pam gets some news that’s pretty shocking, and it’s something she and Jim have to deal with together,” she teases. Speaking of the biggest Office episode in history, Fischer confesses that she’s a little freaked out about it. “I’m nervous. It’s so much pressure. We’ve always been able to fly under the radar; people find us slowly. This is, like, a big spotlight on all of us and on the show, and I’m more comfortable with less attention rather than more.” Fischer can relax. Rainn Wilson told me the episode was aces, and Rainn Wilson doesn’t lie.

Maria in Prescott, Ariz.: More Office, please!
Even with Ryan (B.J. Novak) out of the picture, don’t expect Kelly to hook up with Darryl any time soon. “I’m only in one of the next three episodes,” Craig Robinson tells me. “I’ll be in the warehouse, and I’ll be messing with Michael and staying out of trouble.”
Jan. 11: USA Today
Leslie David Baker, who plays Stanley on The Office, said that in episodes ahead we will see Stanley and his boss Michael Scott (Steve Carell) experience a “180-degree shift” in their relationship. They’re going to be new BFFs? “Detente,” Baker said with a smile.

Synopsis for ‘Prince Family Paper’ (Jan. 22):
FAMILY BUSINESS—Michael (Golden Globe winner Steve Carell) and Dwight (Rainn Wilson) go undercover to do a bit of industrial espionage on a paper company competitor. Meanwhile, the rest of the office holds a debate to settle the question: is Hilary Swank hot? John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, Leslie David Baker, Phyllis Smith, Angela Kinsey, Ed Helms, Kate Flannery, Brian Baumgartner, Creed Bratton and Craig Robinson also star.
Synopsis for ‘The Duel’ (Jan. 15):
A FIGHT TO THE FINISH — The office is on eggshells because Andy (Ed Helms) still hasn’t found out about fiancee Angela’s (Angela Kinsey) affair with Dwight (Rainn Wilson). When Michael (Golden Globe winner Steve Carell) spills the beans, Dwight and Andy take matters into their own hands. Meanwhile, Michael is nervous about being called down to corporate for a meeting with Wallace (Andy Buckley). John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, Leslie David Baker, Brian Baumgartner, Kate Flannery, Mindy Kaling, Phyllis Smith, Oscar Nunez, Creed Bratton and Paul Lieberstein also star.
I am told by my sources that’s it’s ‘The Duel,’ and not ‘Duel.’
Jan. 5: My Show Sources
I’ve confirmed with my sources that Feb. 5, 12, and 19 are all new episodes. A two-parter is scheduled to air on Feb. 5 and 12; ‘Blood Drive’ is scheduled to air Feb. 19.
Jan. 2: From Tallyhead “A”
Coming up in January or maybe February, Michael and Pam visit the Nashua branch. The filming location was the company that provides paper for my husband’s office. I didn’t see any pictures of Holly, but there is a picture of her desk with her nameplate.
Here are some photos from the filming (shot in November 2008).

Hmm. Will we see Holly again?!
Jan. 4: From Tallyhead Delmy
Delmy sent New Year’s greetings to a member of The Office cast, and received a reply that they will be appearing “in the Superbowl episode (Stress Relief) and the Valentine’s day episode (Blood Drive).”

Good episode..definitely not my favorite finale, it should have been supersized..or an hour. And where was my girl Kelly at??! Thought we might see some Kelly/Andy love as a surprise or something crazy like that!
Erin saying BOOYAH got andy a little blood rush, don’t ya think?! HA!
Jenna and John (and Steve of course!) are such phenomenal actors…totally deserving of every award! I mean, the whole show should be nominated & winning for everything!!
JAMbino is an awesome name! Love it!
Oh yeah, and I think Jambino should be the baby’s nickname!
Several of us were talking in the chatroom about tonight’s episode, and we all think it would be a great idea to have a predictions page for season six! What do ya say, Tanster? Predictions on whether the Jam baby will be a boy or girl… etc. :-)
I think it would be a hit! Pretty please? ;-)
Totally called Brian Stack!
omg!!! did you guys see what just happened???
Could the pregnancy and the ‘twist with repercussions well into next season’ be that Michael and Holly go off together during the picnic and make a baby?
I am going to guess that the relationship that does not progress is Jim and Pam’s.
Don’t get me wrong – I love them together. I just thing that all of the spoilers that have been released – the pregnancy spoiler and then Pam going to the hospital and all of the stuff about the wedding – are meant to make us think that they are going to get married or Pam’s going to be pregnant (or both). I think they are trying to lead us off the trail.
My guess is the pregnant one is Holly. I think that’s why she and her boyfriend are shopping for a house.
OMG you guys, watch this promo!!
Link
Maybe the big twist is that the scranton branch shuts down and moves somewhere else. I dunno, but that’s what I got outta that promo, all the scranton workers seem super hypo + Jim and Dwight are getting in the same car!! What do ya think?
I would think that Todd Packer is the not-seen-since-Season-2 character coming back; for good reason as he presumably still works for Dunder Mifflin in some capacity.
If Pam is indeed the character that is pregnant I’m going to be pretty disappointed as that’s not what her character needs attm after her recent career change. Angela would be a whole lot funnier to see. Obviously it would be Dwight’s baby as she and Andy never got “there.”
1647. Garbage: Do all of your predictions involve Katy having Jim’s kid? This is like the third time you’ve predicted that.
Tanster, didn’t you tell us that you saw every scene filmed in the finale except ONE? Do you know what happened during that scene? Just askin. Not that I can pry it out of you. Cookie, Tanster. Cookie… :-)
person we haven’t seen since season 2
stacy.
(poor kevin…how’s he gonna handle lynn AND stacy)
Just because one relationship doesn’t progress, it doesn’t mean it will regress, either, right? Surely you can tell us that much, Tanster??? I’m getting sooooo anxious!
I am just about ready to explode, holding all this information in. :)
Maybe Jim and Pam will have a huge fight and break up. How awesome would that be? Ooh what if Katy comes back and has a kid that turns out to be Jim’s and he has to pay child support now? Now that would be a great twist.
I think the surprise is that when Pam is rushed to the hospital for her ankle, they find out she’s pregnant when they run a blood test or something.
@ 1642: Karen was pregnant in the episode, “Lecture Circuit”, so there’s a possibility that she could be on maternity leave. I can’t wait for tonight’s season finale and to see what the big twist is at the end!
I’m upset it’s only a half hour episode!
I’m guessing that the relationship that does not progress will be JAM’s. Not to say that they’ll regress or have some sort of negativity, they’re just in a stable place right now.
