‘The Office’ Season 6 officially announced

From press release:

NBC has renewed the popular series “The Office,” “30 Rock” and “The Biggest Loser” each for an additional year through the 2009-2010 season, it was announced today by Angela Bromstad, President, Primetime Entertainment, NBC and Universal Media Studios, and Paul Telegdy, Executive Vice President, Alternative Programming, NBC and Universal Media Studios.

“These renewals represent our faith in ‘The Office’ and ’30 Rock’ as they continue to represent the gold standard in acclaimed and award-winning series,” said Bromstad. “We want the devoted fans of these series to know that we are thrilled that these quality programs will be back with the same high-caliber episodes that viewers have come to expect.”

“The Office” is the season’s #1 comedy in adults 18-34 and is tied for the #2 ranking overall, according to “most current” averages from Nielsen Media Research through the season’s opening 16 weeks. The acclaimed fifth-season comedy also has the most upscale audience for a primetime series on any broadcast networks in terms of its concentration of adults 18-49 living in homes with $100,000-plus incomes. “The Office” is averaging a 4.9 rating, 12 share among adults 18-49, a 5.8/15 among adults 18-34 and 9.4 million viewers overall. .

  1. I am all kinds of happy over this news. Now The Office truly will be the show that I watched for my entire college career with all my various college friends and roommates. Good times. :D

    [from tanster: awwwwww …]

  2. Obviously not a surprise, but still makes me feel all warm and fuzzy :)

[from tanster: precisely my feeling. :) ]

  3. Whoo-Hoo! My girls are 4 and 3 so it’s funny to think that the show’s been around longer than they’ve been alive! Every time The Office is on, they know it’s time to stay quiet so my husband and I can hear. lol Such a great show…

  4. Unreal! It’s hard to believe that this show has been on for so long…6 seasons; who’d’ve thunk it!?

  5. I am glad to here it has been renewed. Let us hope that the writers give us more interesting and hilarious episodes.

  6. I’m not surprised, but I am very happy that it is officially signed on again.

Tanster, to be honest, I owe part of this to you. You’re helping pull together the fan base, which is why the show does so well. Part of this celebration definitely goes to you, and I tip my hat in your general direction. You rock, and The Office rocks!

[from tanster: thanks, Matt! the entire office fanbase rocks. :) ]

  7. This was obviously going to happen, but the announcement still made me smile and say “yay!”

  8. Interesting that Earl wasn’t renewed–perhaps they’re finally putting it to pasture in favor of the Poehler series.

  9. Thank goodness! I wasn’t really worried, but I was disappointed when 30 Rock seemed to be winning everything (Emmys, Golden Globes, etc.) over The Office. I’m glad NBC still recognizes this is still a great show! Six years!?!? WOW!!! I can’t wait!

  10. hey, this is awesome, the only thing left to look forward to now is a possible season 7

  11. YES. T.Vs most popular office comedy is renewed for another ground-breaking season!

Here’s to hopefully another six more seasons of our favorite show!

  12. Being british i thought the us office would not live up to the bbc version. However the us version is superb and i have become an avid fan. Overjoyed there will be a season 6 and hopefully many more. The writers and actors do a fantastic job, long may it continue.

  13. Thank goodness “The Office” is doing another season i love it. Keep up the good work

  14. This show is amazing!! I can’t believe i never used to see this show when i was living in America. I had to move to China to find this show haha. I picked up season 5 walking home yesterday, and saw it all. I’m waiting for 6 now!

  15. “Being british i thought the us office would not live up to the bbc version..”

Gervais is still having his caring hands over it as the producer. I doubt it would have been such success without him. The BBC version certainly was his experimental playground for this . Kudos to the actors too.

  16. Very happy this show is to be continued – I really can’t get enough of it – it’s hilarious.

  17. if this show ever has a final episode…i will cry. this is the funniest, most clever show i have ever seen. Thank you so much NBC! keep em comin!

    ^^

  18. Thank god, I absolutely love this show. I am in the navy deployed on a ship right now, and I was introduced to the office. I have now watched every season and cannot wait for the next one. This show has really lifted my spirits out here while I am away from all my family and friends. Thank you NBC and the entire cast of the office.

  19. This is the funniest show I die everytime I watch it. Thank you NBC…THE BEST SHOW ON TV HANDS DOWN!

  20. Hey,
Much agreed, thank you NBC. Also, Jim is a bad ass and it will forever be Thursday (as far as Dwight is concerned.) The new season is the goal of my entire next year. Keep em’ coming Mr. Carell

  21. Television’s best show, I seriously feel so awkward and uncomfortable in my own living room at some of Michael’s antics, or Jim’s shutdowns. Extremely funny and I am so excited about season 6!!!

  22. I just LOOOOOVE Jim! He is so awesome, with his crazy officepranks :) I assume everyone who has commented has seen the final episode in season 5, yes? He is such a good actor, especially in that episode. I get tears in my eyes when he get the news :p He is so adorable. Don’t you agree?

  23. i just saw somewhere that season six is the first of the final three seasons of the show. :(

  24. I fell off my chair laughing during the CPR class when Dwight cut off the practice dummy’s face and was wearing it like Hannibal Lector. Great show, can’t get enough!

  25. This is the funniest programme, even on British TV, at the moment.I think that Pam’s character, has grown as the series have gone on, and as her confidence has shown, she has shown some of the funniest comments, and talking heads on the show. And with her on screen chemistry with Jim, they both show a great comedy pairing, whilst at times, show some realistic touching moments, that people can relate to.

  26. I love the office!! My favorite show! I hope they make more seasons then just season 6…

  27. ba~da~ba~da~da…. I’m lovin’ it!!! My hubby and I are addicted to the office we have all 4 seasons, waiting for season 5 to come out in September, and then of course to watch season 6 on TV in September, too!! What a HOOT!! Can’t get enough. I so love Jim & Pam. Dwight….. the faces, the comments, the beet farm! And Michael, OMG, the hilarious situations he puts himself in…. “that’s what she said”!!! LOL

    GOOD STUFF!
