October 27: Austinist interview with Paul Feig

What’s coming up for you? You have more Office, we’re guessing.

Yeah, I’m probably going to do the season finale over there. Now I’m only kind of doing the big episodes. I just did the wedding episode.

October 23: NBC

Summary for ‘Murder’ (November 12):

MURDER SHE WROTE — Michael’s (Golden Globe winner Steve Carell) world is rocked by troubling rumors about Dunder Mifflin. He forces the office into a day of strange diversions, upsetting Jim (John Krasinski) and leading others to wonder if Michael has gone insane. Meanwhile, Andy (Ed Helms) finds that his chief obstacle in courting Erin (Ellie Kemper) is his own awkwardness. Rainn Wilson, Jenna Fischer, Leslie David Baker, Brian Baumgartner, Kate Flannery, Mindy Kaling, Angela Kinsey, Phyllis Smith, Oscar Nunez, Creed Bratton, Paul Lieberstein and B.J. Novak also star.

October 16: NBC

Summary for ‘Double Date’ (November 5):

Ed Helms, Leslie David Baker, Brian Baumgartner, Kate Flannery, Mindy Kaling, Angela Kinsey, Phyllis Smith, Oscar Nunez, Creed Bratton, Paul Lieberstein, B.J. Novak and Ellie Kemper also star.

October 15: from the set of the wedding episode, ‘Niagara’

[from tanster: my friend was an extra for the wedding episode and sent me a report. Here are excerpts.]

I was outside while they shot for about two hours, but this is at the point when they were 35 minutes late to the wedding.  Then … Jim and Pam show up.  Pam’s veil is torn, but as you saw from the paparazzi  pictures, she was beautiful!  The picture of Pam and Toby coming out of the church and embracing was just a ploy.

Michael had apparently plotted with Jim’s brothers and Dwight to do something special for J & P.  The organist stopped playing and Chris Brown started blaring over the speakers and Jim’s brothers run out of the church leaving Jim at the altar not knowing what is about to happen.  Then every cast member and family member began dancing down the aisle. I actually cried at them celebrating Jim and Pam in such a silly and totally Office way.

Then Jim exited and went around and grabbed Pam and they danced down the aisle.

Then the wedding ceremony started.  The pastor mixed up Jim and Pam’s names, an ice cream truck and siren interrupt the ceremony more than once.  Then the kiss. I really felt incredibly lucky to have been there.  This is TV history!

I was recalled Monday. I found out shortly that we were headed to the rehearsal dinner and the hotel bar scenes. The toasts begin.  Jim’s brothers tell Pam she’s hot and tell their wives to step it up a bit. Then Michael, despite his promise not to make a speech stands to offer some light-hearted comedy. “What’s up with the smart car?  What? Does it run on books?  Oooo! And what’s with the weather?  One day it’s sunny.  The next it’s rainy?  Make up your mind!”

Tuesday was the shortest of the four days.  We shot bar scenes that are supposed to be after the rehearsal dinner.  Pam’s sister runs into Oscar and Kevin bonding at the bar, and Oscar swears again that they aren’t an item.

We also shot Andy inviting Erin up to his room.  He explains, “I ordered Frost/Nixon on Demand and we can watch it as many times as we want in 24 hours.  It’ll be amazing.”  Erin turns his offer down in favor of hanging out with everyone.

October 13: NBC

This is the last week of shooting The Office Season 6 (wrapping up the Christmas episode) until 2010, with the exception of new webisodes shooting next Monday.

Oct. 9: Brian Baumgartner’s Twitter feed

We are all back on set, feeling great about last night’s episode. The snow is falling cause it’s Christmas here. Ho ho ho.

October 8: Newsday interview with Greg Daniels

Greg [Daniels] says the baby could arrive in January – and not necessarily in February sweeps, as most fans assume. Reason? She conceived in May (sweeps), and January is the ninth month. Feb delivery just might not seem realistic.

October 7: Fancast

Excerpts from Fancast’s interview with Jenna Fischer:

Pam didn’t want to look like a pregnant bride – and she’s still keeping it a secret from some of her family – so she wasn’t going to wear some tight fitting dress. Her grandma says, “You’re the only bride I know who got fatter!” So we had to make her look a little tubby, but also really pretty.

… will longtime “Jam” fans get payoff in the form of a nice romantic moment?
Don’t worry, it’s there. And it’s not a moment, it’s like a full 10 minutes. They really stop and savor the culmination of this romance.

Tell us about Pam’s “new” mom, Linda Purl. [Shannon Cochran had previously played the role in the Season 2 episode ‘Sexual Harassment.’]
She’s a great actress, and she’s naturally funny. Pam’s mom is wounded because of the divorce with Pam’s dad, and she played it perfectly. We tried to get the original mom, but I heard she was on a 12-month theater tour and was not available.

We did shoot a scene in Pam and Jim’s house for the wedding episode, but I don’t know if it made the cut.

There is a big arc for Jim professionally this season, as he takes on more responsibility while Pam is struggling as a salesperson. They were living their life like single people and suddenly now they’re pregnant – and babies are expensive! The surprise of the baby means Pam and Jim both need to keep their jobs. I pitched that Pam’s mom should take care of the baby during the day while Pam’s at work.

What is the timing of the baby’s arrival?
Pam’s baby will be born the first or second week of February.

October 7: TV Guide interview with Rashida Jones

TVGuide.com: Have they talked about a crossover with The Office?

Jones: No, it would be so weird. It would be like the Twilight Zone with me involved. We’ve never talked about it. I think [executive producers] Mike Schur and Greg Daniels are so committed to the realistic element that I’m the red herring there. As long as I’m not involved, I feel like they could do a little crossing over.

October 6: NBC.com

Summary for ‘Koi Pond’ (Oct. 29):

SPECIAL HALLOWEEN EPISODE — MICHAEL MAKES A SPLASH AT A BUSINESS MEETING — It’s Halloween and the office plans a “Haunted House” for the children in the community. And at an important business meeting, Michael (Golden Globe winner Steve Carell) falls into a koi pond. Meanwhile, Pam (Jenna Fischer) and Andy (Ed Helms) go cold calling to drum up more sales. Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Leslie David Baker, Brian Baumgartner, Kate Flannery, Mindy Kaling, Angela Kinsey, Phyllis Smith, Oscar Nunez, Creed Bratton, Paul Lieberstein, B.J. Novak, Craig Robinson and Ellie Kemper also star.

October 5: PR.com

… Linda [Purl] takes her place as mother-of-the-bride ‘Helene Beesly’ on NBC’s “The Office,” making the first of several appearances on the October 8th episode titled “Niagara.”

Rumor has it that there’s a possible storyline in the works for a little romantic interlude with Steve Carell’s character ‘Michael Scott’ that could open the door for Linda to make several more guest appearances.

This interview with Ellie has a bit of “kind of spoilerish” stuff about the finale – not much though.

    Link

  2. 874. floppyhair

Tanster, do you think maybe NBC’s excitement glands are all dried up after the promotion of the Delivery./Niagara? …..because we got nothing. I would have italicized that if I could….
    :(

  3. 873. Matt

Tanster, from what you saw, did you like the finale?

[from tanster: yeah, there's some good stuff in tonight's episode. jenna/kathy did this amazing improv during one scene that i hope makes it in!]

  4. 872. Amy

This is the weirdest-feeling season finale ever. Where is the anticipation and buildup? Where is the promotion? Nobody anywhere is talking about The Office.

[from tanster: i know, right? not watch with kristin, not ausiello, nobody. :( ]

  5. 871. Matt

I have some concern about tomorrow’s episode. No spoilers, no real promotion. Does not feel like a finale. I have a guess that maybe Pam or Jim is the leak, since they don’t seem involved in story plot at moment.

[from tanster: i agree that it is totally weird that NBC hasn't been promoting the finale at all.]

  6. 870. Emily

I really hope Holly comes back! She took some getting used to at first, but her and Michael are just perfect…

  7. 869. floppyhair

I really, really, really, hope that “true love for Michael” indicates some Amy Ryan/Holly Flax coming back….
I know Amy isn’t scheduled to come back this season at all, but maybe the episode will end with Michael calling her or something? Cliffhanger, I think yes? :)

  8. 868. Matt

That promo might have given us nothing, but Tanster can…she was there! Three days! Time for some hints!

  9. 867. Matt

My final guess for the 3 Tanster met is Marcus York, Kathy Bates, and Zach Woods.

  10. 866. SJ

Andy playing a big part in the finale? What a surprise.

  11. 865. eastcoast_girl

After further thought, I think Jenna’s comment about a return to real love for Michael may be referring to him reaching out to Holly in the finale, even if we don’t necessarily see her.

  12. 864. Tiffany

Okay, I need a Jan fix, stat. Come home Jan Levenson, and please have your head screwed on straight!

  13. 863. Annie

I think this will be the first finale without a Jim/Pam plot….. Are we at least going to see them with Cecelia?

  14. 862. eastcoast_girl

I can only wish for Melora Hardin in the finale, although it could be argued she has really a love/hate with Michael. Amy Ryan would be great too. Thought last season finale was a real letdown.

  15. 861. Matt

    It is agonizing waiting!

  16. 860. Kelly

Yes-I agree with needing something spoilery. Please Tanster:)

  17. 859. chalon

Well, I think there’s at least two surprises in store for the last couple episodes, that will answer these questions:

    1. Why is Michael okay with being Donna’s mistress? Probably means someone from his romantic past is back (and no it’s not Holly).

    2. Who is the whistleblower, and what happens to both that person and Sabre after it’s found out.

Oh, and I came up with another guess for the a/r name game: Nancy Carell! If we’re being thorough, we might as well include Carol. Also, maybe tanster just met her on the set ’cause she was visiting Steve with the kids, and it had nothing to do with the episode!

[from tanster: the person i met does have something to do with an episode. :) ]

  18. 858. Wendy

It seems so quiet over here in Spoilers for this season’s finale. I wonder if they’ve managed to keep any big spoilers tightly under wraps this year? Or maybe there isn’t a big “WOW” moment this year to have to keep top secret? Either way, I can’t wait for the next two episodes! Tanster, when will you be providing us with your on-set visit report? Sorry, I just can’t wait!

  19. 857. Matt

Since you saw the last two being filmed Tanster, can you start sharing some spoilers or more hints?

  20. 856. Matt

Looks like the printer arc starts with The Cover-Up. The clip that Mindy showed on The Tonight Show, featured Andy asking Kelly about customer complaints regarding faulty printers.
