‘The Office’ non-spin-off news
Tuesday, November 18th, 2008 | 572 commentsThis post lists news about the new TV show being helmed by The Office’s Greg Daniels and Mike Schur. While initially announced as possibly being a spin-off of ‘The Office,’ that is no longer the case. Mike Schur currently refers to it as “The Untitled Amy Poehler Project.” It is scheduled to air on NBC in April 2009.
Latest updates
- Nov. 18: “Jones is set to play Ann Logan, a nurse whose boyfriend has a strange injury. It’s that injury that leads Jones’ character into the world populated by Poehler and Aziz Ansari.” More at Variety.
- Nov. 18: The New York Post reported this morning that Rashida Jones is joining the cast. (Tipster: Paul) Immediately suspicious of this information, I contacted Michael Schur, one of the showrunners, who confirms “It’s true. She’ll be playing a nurse named Ann. (Not Karen Fillipelli.)” There you have it — an OfficeTally scoop. Thanks, Mike!

I love the show can’t wait to see it!
Yay! I love Rashida! …And Amy. Haha, this is really cool. :)
This is great news! First of all, Rashida Jones is awesome, and second of all, if her character’s name is Ann, then the Office world and this show’s world cannot overlap in any way. I’m excited to see this.
Great quote from that Variety article:
“”She (Rashida) is perfect for this new show, which — just to remind everyone — is not a spinoff of ‘The Office,’ ” he said. “It is a spinoff of ‘MASH’ called ‘Seinfeld II.’ “
The new show cannot possibly be set in a hospital/rehab center/what have you. It’s too obvious. Michael Schur or someone made it clear months ago that they would try to keep the premise a secret for as long as they can…possibly up until its April premiere. Schur is just messing with us to make us think it’s a hospital.
So it is a hospital show of sorts!
It says she’s playing a nurse. Is it possibly set in a hospital or pediatric center?
Rashida! It’ll be so nice to see her back on TV and in something by the Office guys. Much better than that Fox sitcom, she totally deserves better roles than that.
OMG Yay! Rashida on my TV every week!!!
Thanks, Tanster, for making my day with your scoop!
How can some of you guys hate on Rashida? Sure, you may not like Karen, but seriously, what else has Rashida been in that makes you dislike her?
[from tanster: i agree, nate. it's quite puzzling.]
Anyway, I can’t wait to see Aziz Ansari on tv. That dude is hilarious.
Tanster,
Eonline.com did an Officetally.com plug! They put up an article regarding Rashida Jones’ being signed on to the spin-off. Kudos!
[from tanster: how cool is that? thanks! :) ]
Is Rashida Jones coming back as Karen?
Being the forever Jim/Pam-lover and thus Karen-hater that I am, it will be nice to see Rashida in a different role! She was brilliant as Karen, and that’s probably what made me hate her! And as a nurse? I wonder if we will soon see a Dr. Poehler emerge… Interesting developments… : )
I don’t get it. She’s just not funny.
I guess I am happy about this news, because if Rashida is playing a different character, then this is definitely a different world from “The Office,” so they can’t steal away any of the current cast!
That said, I’m not a Rashida fan, so it’s kinda a bummer she’s a part of the new show. Not sure if I’ll watch.
l read in the Washington Post the TV columnist saying the project wasn’t going anywhere so it would never happen.
l got really pessimistic and sad because Amy poehler is a comedy genius (Steve Carell level talent)and she could carry a show all by herself.
l feel better if casting process is going on but not totally confident.
Thanks, Tanster and Mike, for the scoop!
Can’t wait to see the show.
A nurse? So is the show set in a hospital? If only we knew someone who could ask Mike Schur that question. ;)
I can’t wait to see this show… if it, you know, ever happens…
So will Greg and Mike no longer be part of the show anymore?
