  1. Thanks, dwigt! I like them, too.

Please feel free to suggest ideas for future polls. Hopefully we’ll have one for each new episode.

  2. Nice.

    I got it.

    Roy smash! He big man!

But he breaks like little girl.

I want Halpert to have a black eye at least.

  3. Yeah, more of these polls would be great.

Kinda surprised to see so many watch the show for JAM though.

Given its a big part of the show, but it is a comedy before the JAM factor.

  4. Love the polls! And I was totally out on the Pam/Jim/Karen/Roy love square, triangles, whatever, until Roy went crazy and declared that he’s going to kill him! I can’t wait!

  5. “Kinda surprised to see so many watch the show for JAM though”

I voted for the first option, but that doesn’t mean I only watch the show for that storyline.

The 3rd option was not caring either way. That wasn’t me either.

You can love Jim/Pam and be excited for the movement in their storyline, but still love and enjoy the show as a whole. I don’t think they were mututally exclusive

  6. Dorky Dancer, you took the words right out of my mouth.

I like all story lines about The Office and that includes the Jim/Pam one.

I’m also very interested in Jim and Pam as individual characters and I think the just plain “Pam” storyline was compelling in itself, so I debated that whether or not I wanted to vote for the first option. Then I saw the side comment “Roy going to Kill Jim. Roy going to Kill Jim” And then I was like Oh yeah, that was me after the show. :)

  7. Yeah… I was kind of conflicted where to vote as well. I went the opposite route of dorkydancer, though. I picked the last option, even though I do care about the Jim/Pam storyline. It’s just not the most important part of the show to me.

  8. Tanster,
I love the new polls!! It’s such a great way to get the pulse on what the best office fans are thinking.

  9. The way I see it is like this. The three main “relationships” on the show, using the broad sense of the term, are Michael-Dwight, Dwight-Jim and Jim-Pam.

Those who enjoy the first two sets have many great moments this season to enjoy, but those who enjoy the last pair interacting have been given very little this season.

The principle difference between the way the show is handling them and the way some fans such as me view them is the show is focusing too much on happily ever after, with the idea that alls well that ends well so we can keep them apart now.

But many viewers simply enjoy seeing Jim and Pam interact. I don’t care if they have babies. They had a charm and chemistry that could have taken this show to the top of the ratings, but instead has been squelched all season. I’m not saying it has been ruined beyond repair but lets put it this way, people who really enjoy seeing Jim and Pam interact have less motivation to buy the DVD set for season 3 than do people who get a kick out of other pairings and interactions.

  10. okay, i love this.
fourth option. ‘i think roy gonna kill jim. but i watch grey’s too. don’t diss the dead sexy bomb guy & heart patient.’

i vote for that one. :]

  11. I forgot to add that despite that long post, I’m more optimistic now than I had been and enjoyed the last episode. :)

  12. I agree with DrunkBiking, I loved season 2 so much just seeing Jim and Pam doing things together, never really wanting them to be “together” or caring that much. They just play so well off each other and that’s what I get a kick out of, not necessarily the “will they or won’t they” moments like on Booze Cruise.

This season they have only been together in brief flashes, like when they broke Andy’s brain….*sigh* I miss moments like that

  13. Ooo, not enough options for me. I’d pick something between the first and second if I could.

I just wanted to comment on your post. I thought it was a great post and you touched on something that I have been feeling, but have been too afraid to say.

I think you captured the essence of why the Jim and Pam relationship was so captivating in Season 2 and why the lack of Jim and Pam positive interaction this season has caused more pain than joy. I’m just not finding the pain all that fun (but like a squished bug under a book, I just have to look). However, this has caused me to focus more on the other aspects of the show that I have always loved. For instance, Dwight and Angela seem sweeter than ever. On a deeper level, I’ve also been completely enthralled with Pam’s transformation (although it can be connected to Jim it is also an act on it’s own).

Anyway, I had to detach myself a little from the JAM story line in order to completely enjoy the show for what it is again. And essentially, isn’t that how we all started when we were Office virgins and weren’t aware of how deep and involved the JAM storyline was? I swear, this disconnection is like a re-birth. I enjoy the JAM storyline so much more because of it, because not every episode depends and revolves around it. (And, yes I am hopeful, just so we can have the old Jim and Pam back)

Sorry for the long post, I got carried away.

  15. tanster – the poll idea is good but in the future maybe more than just a great/it sucks option? I think many fans coming off this last episode are cautiously optimistic, and so they vote better than ever because that’s the only positive option they are given.

  16. reply to 10

That is true. I skipped the question being asked and just saw the answers, oops.

I voted for the 3rd option as I watch the show for the comedy, then JAM. I felt answer 1 was saying you watch the show for JAM, then comes the comedy.

    :)

  17. I was conflicted on this poll. I don’t watch the show for the Jim/Pam relationship. The Jim/Pam story has kind of been so full of drama and is starting to bore me. HOWEVER, after Cocktails, it HAS become more compelling compared to where it was before and now i’m hoping for a Jim/Roy brawl (though i doubt we’ll see one). Which is why i voted for the first option.

  18. my question is, does Roy REALLY want to kill Jim or does he want to beat him till he’s crippled?

  19. I really feel there should have been another option, that we do watch for JAM and we are NOT happy with the storyline, it is NOT more compelling, just irritating =)

  20. Tanster, great poll. Any chance you can use PollDaddy so we can rate each episodes? That was one of my favorite features of the site.

  21. Hey,I just wanted to comment on the episode, but since the episode topic isnt on the main page, I decided to do it here.

But, I did vote for the first one. I love it all…

Okay, Did anyone else laugh at Roy’s line, “I’m gonna kill Jim Halpert.”

Most people think that it was very intense and sort of out of character for a comedy to end that way…but, think about what Kenny said before Roy’s threat.

Something to the effect of this (paraphrased):

Roy: Are they gonna call the cops?
Kenny: No, I paid them off.
Roy: I’m gonna kill Jim Halpert.

-Just think about this. It’s hilarious because they just lost the Jet Ski money to the bar. Roy is more hacked about losing that money than Pam’s actual confession. And yet, Roy blames his loss of money on Jim. So, therefore, I see this as a comedic thing. Great stuff.
