Rainn on Conan and Regis

  • Just a reminder that Rainn appears on ‘Late Night with Conan O’Brien’ tonight. Other guests include Stephen Colbert and Lil’ Ed and the Blues Imperials. I’ve confirmed this at NBC.com, TVGuide.com, Yahoo TV, and my TiVo. It’s a little confusing, because the show is on Wednesday late night and appears on the Wednesday schedule, but because the show starts after midnight, the correct date of the show is Thursday, July 13th.
  • Rainn will also appear on ‘Live with Regis and Kelly’ tomorrow morning.
  • As for tomorrow night, Brian alerted me to the fact that NBC.com is no longer listing The Secret as part of the Thursday night schedule, so as Jim says, that’s what I’ll be working on the rest of the day. ;)

The Friday Tally

  • Steve Carell responds to the Emmy announcement from yesterday: “I am honored and overwhelmed that ‘The Office’ has received a nomination. This is a very exciting moment for everyone involved with the show. We are all extremely honored. I’m also additionally overjoyed by being personally recognized as well.” (Source: Access Hollywood)
  • Rainn Wilson appears next week on ‘Late Night with Conan O’Brien’ (Wednesday night, still trying to confirm) and ‘Live with Regis and Kelly’ (Thursday morning). Both are listed in the calendar. Dwight Schrute speaks at Microsoft

At Microsoft’s San Francisco presentation of its new virtual meeting product called Microsoft Office Roundtable, Dwight Schrute makes a surprise appearance.

Dwight, of course, takes the opportunity to suck up to the presenter: “You know, I go to bed every night with my Xbox 360 and my collector’s edition of Windows 95, and my signed 8×10 glossy of Bill Gates.”

Terry Estudillo of The Seattle Times delves into the life and career of Rainn Wilson (“Dwight”).

An excerpt:

Wilson says Dwight is inspired in part by his counterpart, Mackenzie Crook’s equally officious Gareth Keenan, in the original British series.

“I used the central aspect of Mackenzie’s character — that pompousness, self-superior-ness, the love of hierarchy, the way his mind could be so mind-bogglingly dull in some ways and brilliant in others — and I just ran with it.”
