Q. A lot of shows go to great lengths to avoid spoilers about the secret scenes in their finales, some going so far as to shoot fakes or leave pages out of peoples’ scripts. So, I was wondering how many people were involved with shooting yours, and if you took any special precautions to avoid leaks. | dave!
Jen C: We did take a bunch of precautions for the finale episode. In fact, we realized we got a little carried away when some high-up folks on our distribution list called us — “um, so, we got the super-secretive watermarked dvd this morning in the hiding place where you left it for us and the hospital scene is not on the disc.”
So it looked like we were being extra cautious about people seeing … volleyball?
Q. John’s reaction to the Pam’s pregnancy hit an emotional chord during this episode. His teary eyes were especially perfect. Did the director/writers give John much direction with the scene? | Tiffany, Office Examiner
Jen C: I loved John’s performance in that last scene so much. I was not on set for that moment, but I talked to Ken Kwapis and Paul about the shooting of that scene.
Ken and John talked about how Jim has had this camera crew around him for the last five years, and that he might include them in this moment.
And that was my favorite look from Jim — right after he talks to Dwight, he turns to the camera and it feels like he is sharing this moment with the cameraman.
Q. Will the hospital scene be released with audio, much like we got to see the proposal without audio? I’m curious as to what was said! | AndIHaveWorms
Jen C: We don’t have plans to release the scene with audio. John and Jenna are such great actors and have the ability to convey so much without hearing their dialogue — we talked at one point about hearing what they said — but it seemed more powerful to us to just watch their faces.
And working backwards from that — we put in the scene where the nurse mentions pregnancy so that during the silent scene, we were pretty much up to speed and could hopefully just enjoy the moment.
I also liked that with Jim we couldn’t hear him when he was inside the room so that when he came outside to talk to Dwight we were finally able to hear the emotion in his voice.
I’m assuming most of you have seen the British Office, (if not — spoiler alert) but we are all big fans of the moment that Tim takes off his mic and tells Dawn how he feels. Such an intimate moment that, to me, it feels like it’s nice to have it just be theirs…
Q. When did the idea of the pregnancy surface? Because I can see some foreshadowing in previous episodes (Jim saying she’s “the future mother of my children” and Pam talking about their future children after everything with her dad) and I was wondering if that was intentional. | LoveMeSomeJAM
Jen C: The idea of the pregnancy came while we were breaking the final episode, but I do think they’ve always been headed in that direction, it just happened a little out of the traditional order :)
Q. My question is, were Jim’s tears at the end in the script or was that all John? | DunderSnob
Jen C: All John.
