Brian Baumgartner and Mindy Kaling conference call

Brian: Yeah. That was — actually that was from Chair Model…

Press: Chair Model.

Brian: And I’m really correcting you…

Press: Thank you.

Brian: Because I want to prove that I can remember some episodes.

Press: I better go back and do my research. No, but based on that I was wondering if you could either give us any insights, if you have your own back story. What happened there with Stacy, I think a lot of fans were disappointed with that. And where you think — where you see them going with Kevin relationship-wise?

Brian: Well, I love that. I mean thank you for bringing up that moment. Because I really loved that moment too because it’s obviously something that’s been very important in terms of the show — in terms of Michael’s development and, you know, he can be such an ass and such a buffoon.

But, we work really hard to give him those moments where he’s redeemed. Where you see at least the potential for being a good man is there or being good at his job or whatever. And I really saw that as one of those kinds of moments for Kevin where you see him a very small victory, in life, being able to get back to the parking spaces. But for him, sort of a very large redeeming moment for him.

In terms of what happened I don’t know if we’ll ever know. I did hear some very funny ideas on what happened.

One of which was that she was married the whole time, that Stacy was married the whole time. I — but I don’t know, if that’s ever going to play itself out. But I think sort of with that near the end of the year and then obviously the story in the finale where, you know, he maybe has slightly more confidence. Or is at least excited by the attention he’s getting from the new HR person. I would say Kevin’s definitely on the prowl and so we’ll see if he can get lucky maybe sometime the first part of this year.

Press: So everybody knows that Kevin’s big vice is gambling. I want to know if maybe you had any vices along the same lines?

Brian: Wow. That I can talk about, unknown number of people listening. You know, I like to gamble. I would not say that I’m like Kevin actually. But I do enjoy blackjack and poker. Again, I’m like way, way, way less involved than he is.

But I do play quite a lot of golf actually. And I’m going to play in this tournament this weekend that’s actually once again going to be on NBC I think this coming up weekend in Lake Tahoe. So because it’s in Lake Tahoe, I imagine a couple of days from now when I’m not playing golf which if you want to call that a vice you can, I might be doing — playing a little blackjack.

Press: And now for The Office games, I mean everyone’s seen the episode, The Office Olympics episode, you and the jar of candy … do you still dominate in that or do you dominate in any of the other games?

Brian: Well, this is the story. They knew that I would kick everyone’s ass at The Office games event. If I can say ass, I guess I just did. So they didn’t want me to do that, so they invited Mindy to come and like try to eat beets or whatever she’s going to do.

I was actually on a radio show where the host challenged me to an M&M eating contest. And I lost actually. So I might be slipping a little bit in that regard. I know, I know. It’s very disappointing.

  1. That was awesome! Great job Brian and Mindy – that interview was both hilarious and informative :) Thanks for getting that transcript together, Tanster! Just a question: Were there a bunch of people at the interview? Because there is “Moderator”, “NBC”, and “Press”.

[from tanster: yes, “Press” represents the eight or so press people that listened in on the call. each got a turn to ask questions.]

  2. “Mindy: I was actually in Cambridge with B.J. Novak three days ago and we had Vietnamese food at Sylvester in Harvard Square. So yeah I did it.”

Cool, someone posted on June 30th on the IMDb forums that they saw Mindy and B.J. eat dinner in Cambridge, but at East Coast Grill in Inman Square in Cambridge, not at Sylvester in Harvard Square.

  3. What a fun conference call! I wish there was a video, though. I can just imagine how they said the transcript…

  4. Thanks for clarifying, Tanster! No joke, we would all be lost without you!

[from tanster: no problem. when i heard about this transcript, i knew i had to get it for you guys! :) ]

  5. I love that the press person called Brian “Kevin” in that first question. Haha, oops!
