NBC refunds advertisers as ratings plunge

From Yahoo News:

Fourth-ranked broadcaster NBC has quietly begun reimbursing advertisers an average of $500,000 each for failing to reach guaranteed ratings levels, the first time a network has taken such a step in years, media buyers said.

This paragraph is interesting:

Magna Global audience analysis exec vp Steve Sternberg said he saw no problem with NBC airing a reality block on a low-rated night like Saturday or even during the week if the production values were high or if it replaced other reality programming. However, “if it replaces midweek scripted hours, it could have a negative impact” on ratings and audience quality, he said.

(The Office will be replaced by Celebrity Apprentice starting January 3rd.)

Write a letter (part 2)

Tonight I received this email from Michael Schur, writer and co-executive producer of The Office:

Hey tanster,

Saw this somewhere and thought TallyHeads might be into it.

This site, Firedoglake, has made it really easy to send emails to the companies on behalf of specific shows. I’d encourage them not only to do it for The Office, but for any show on any network they like and want to see come back.

Constant pressure on the networks is having an effect — and on advertisers, too. At least one large national company is considering pulling ads from shows because of pressure from consumers. (Unconfirmed but there’ve been a lot of rumors.)

Anyway, thought this might be something good for the site … as always, thanks.

If you wrote and sent a letter the first time around, you are a-w-e-s-o-m-e. Now it’s time to do it again. Tell those network execs to get back to the negotiating table!

Do it for The Office. Do it for Mose.

Office set visit auction for a cause!

The Office

Kent Zbornak, co-executive producer of The Office, is auctioning off a set visit to The Office!

All proceeds go to the Office Fans Christmas Fund, benefiting The Office staff members that were laid off after the WGA strike began.

Details of the set visit from Kent:

As part of the Office Fans Christmas Fund, we would like to donate a guest tour of our production. The winner of this auction item and three guests will be given a V.I.P. tour of our shooting facility in Los Angeles and join the cast and crew for lunch. In addition, the winner will get to watch scenes being filmed for an actual episode.

I contacted Kent personally about this auction, and he assures me that it is legitimate.

Tallyheads, please let me know if you bid and win! I would love to feature your report and photos here at OT.

The auction ends December 14th.

Vote for your favorite Office Lolcat!

Presenting the top 20 finalists of The OfficeTally Lolcat Contest!

Apologies for the delay in getting the final poll posted — Lolcat judges Mosby, Matt, and Tori, negotiated at an undisclosed location for days until they agreed on the 20 finalists. (Wait, I’m getting this mixed up with another story …)

Thanks to the judges for coming up with the final list! Some of the entries are hilarious.

Please vote for your favorite Office LOLCat after the jump. The top five vote-getters will each receive a Target Office goodie from OT’s available stash! (There are a couple of multiple entries; if one person manages to get more than one entry in the Top 5, I’ll go down the list and award #6 and/or #7.)
